  • A traditional cottage situated in a peaceful North Norfolk village
  • An ideal for exploring both the coast and countryside with nearby nature reserves at Blakeney, Cley and Scolt Head
  • This is a perfect rural getaway for a couple or small family
Property code: NCC34

Set in a picturesque village in the beautiful Glaven valley, this traditional cottage offers cosy accommodation for a couple or small family looking to enjoy a peaceful retreat in the heart of Norfolk.

The pretty village of Thornage is situated just 3 miles from the popular, historic and bustling market town of Holt, which offers a delightful choice of restaurants, shops and pubs. The nearby Holt Country Park has 100 acres of beautiful woodland to explore. The coast is within easy reach, with the thriving villages of Blakeney and Salthouse just 6 miles away. Among many local attractions are Pensthorpe Natural Park, Castle Acre, and the fantastic nature reserves of Scolt Head and Blakeney Point, which is home to a colony of grey seals. There are numerous charming towns and villages to visit including Fakenham and Wells-next-the-Sea, or you could visit Houghton Hall, Holkham Hall or the royal estate at Sandringham.

Four curved brick steps, with hand rail, lead down from the parking area to the entrance of this lovely, traditional and thoughtfully renovated end-of-terrace cottage. On entering you will find yourself in the welcoming and cosy open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Retaining original features including exposed beams and stonework, this room is full of character, and features plenty of comfortable seating as well as a delightful dining area, TV, DVD, digital radio and a traditional wood burner. The kitchen is fully equipped, with an oven, gas hob, microwave and fridge with ice compartment. Heading upstairs you will find two comfortable bedrooms: a double room with an en-suite shower room, and a single bedroom with an en-suite bathroom.

Approximately 20 metres from the front door is a pretty, enclosed garden with a patio and lawn. It is sheltered and catches the sun in most places throughout the day. The garden has been planted with shrubs and flowers and has garden furniture. Please note the garden is situated between two neighbouring cottages and can only be accessed from the lane and not directly from the cottage. As the garden is separate from the cottage and there are other animals in the area, dogs must not be left unsupervised. Parking for one car is available directly outside the cottage.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

  • 2 bedrooms - 1 double bedroom, 1 single room
  • 2 bathrooms - 1 en-suite bathroom and 1 en-suite shower room
  • Electric oven, gas hob, microwave and fridge with ice compartment

  • LPG gas heating
  • Towels included
  • Enclosed garden with patio and garden furniture, 20 metres from the cottage
  • Off street parking for 1 car available
  • 4 curved brick steps (with hand rail) lead to the cottage entrance

We found the cottage to be cosy & comfortable and well appointed. The kitchen has more than enough equipment. A pleasant surprise was the jam, fruit juice, coffee and tea. The two en-suite bathrooms were useful. Thornage is well placed for exploring North Norfolk. We were worried about other reviews mentioning a smell of damp but we didn't smell this at all. The location is great for access to other places , and Holt is very close and offers tons of great shops and cafes /restaurants. The garden is enclosed and just a few steps out of the door so that was good for our dog. Cottage clean and comfortable. We agree with other guests there is a strong smell of damp, The road is very busy and therefore very noisy. Night time traffic using full beam did light up bedrooms. The garden is not attached to the cottage but we used a lot and enjoyed it. Lots of lovely places near by to visit, good location to explore Norfolk.

Disappointing. Property not very clean, having an over-all level of tiredness, and being in need of redecorating. Whole cottage would benefit from a deep clean and professional redecoration. Lovely cosy cottage and garden, shame they're not attached! You have to be careful walking on the road as there are no pavements but the road isn't as busy as some people have said. Holt is very close by, with its old buildings and independent shops; there's lots to do in the area. Would stay here again.
