Set on the banks of the tranquil River Wensum, this delightful and peaceful country cottage nestles in the heart of the picturesque Norfolk countryside and is perfect for enjoying a fishing break.

The lovely village of Great Ryburgh is ideal for exploring the heart of the Norfolk countryside. There is a Raptor watch point just on the edge of the village where you can regularly spot buzzards, hobbies and sparrowhawks. Nearby are the thriving market towns of Fakenham and Dereham, or you could head to the coast and discover the beaches and quaint harbour towns and resorts of Hunstanton, Wells-next-the-Sea, Sheringham and Brancaster. There are plenty of quaint villages to explore inland including the medieval pilgrim village of Little Walsingham. You will also be ideally situated for enjoying the beautiful Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Among nearby attractions are Holkham Hall, Pensthorpe Natural Park, the Holkham Estate and Sandringham.

On entering this delightful country cottage you will find yourself in the light and spacious lounge. With plenty of comfy seating, TV/DVD and a flame effect gas fire set in a large inglenook feature fireplace, the comfortable and welcoming lounge is an ideal space to relax in. Moving into the bright and attractive kitchen/diner you will find a charming dining area for up to eight guests, and the kitchen is fully equipped with an electric oven and hob with extractor, dishwasher, microwave and fridge. A washing machine and freezer are housed in the laundry room at the back of the cottage. There is also a ground-floor WC. Steep cupboard stairs lead you up from the lounge to the first floor; please be aware that these are quite steep cottage-style stairs with a twist, which may be unsuitable for the elderly or the very young. On the first floor you will find three cosy bedrooms: there’s a double room with a king-size bed, a twin room and a single room. You will also find a bathroom complete with a free standing roll top bath, double walk in shower, WC and wash hand basin. Please note there are some low ceilings, particularly upstairs.

Stepping outside, you will find a lovely, well-stocked garden which extends to half an acre, and backs onto the river,  lie in the hammock, or sit out on the decking taking in the lovely views and wildlife. There are shrubs and planted beds as well as a well-kept lawn. The garden is enclosed and access to the river is through a gate. There is parking off-road at the front of the house for two cars.

Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week.

We loved our stay at River Cottage. The house was cosy and comfortable - perfect after days out at the coast. The gardens were lovely and very exciting for a 7 year old to explore. Highly recommended!

Very peaceful location. Comfortable and warm cottage and beautiful gardens. Pub and chip shop nearby. Shower great, although the novelty of not being able to stand up straight in the bathroom due to the slope of the ceiling wore off after a while. This property does not have WiFi. We should have checked more carefully but its a utility these days dRead moreo we didnt. So dont expect to watch Netflix here or Skype or FaceTime family. Hide

Well positioned in an attractive village with pub, fish and chip shop, village shop and about 4 miles from Fakenham the cottage is set off well by its marvellous garden, a most attractive feature for anyone with dogs. However, take towels if your mutts like water, the river being easily accessed. We enjoyed it.

We booked this cottage because of the fishing but were very disappointed as there is not as much as a stickleback in the river. Cottage itself disappointing. Mill Farm fishery saved the day. Lovely area.

Lovely garden but so overgrown not like the pictures on the site. The table and chairs by the river very rundown cant sit on them as garden overgrown. Inside very tired and a permanent musty smell. Stairs very steep.

A lovely quirky cottage in a quiet location, only 20 mins from the coast. We felt comfortable straight away and it had everything we could possibly need, the welcome tea, coffee & biscuits were really appreciated. The garden was great, loved by the dog and our 10 year old son who couldnt stay away from the swing we would definitely go back but a liRead morettle tlc would turn this lovely cottage into a really great place to stay.
