A wonderfully secluded former schoolhouse situated within 1 acre of grounds and offering stunning period accommodation for two guests, in the Norfolk village of Saxlingham.

The village of Saxlingham, where this cottage is situated, is a wonderfully peaceful part of the world surrounded by rolling countryside and perfect for enjoying scenic walks and cycle rides. Those with an interest in history or architecture may like to pop into the village church which has some fine examples of stained glass windows dating as far back as the 13th century. 4 miles to the east of the village, the market town of Holt is a great place to spend an afternoon wandering round the shops and stopping for lunch in one of the numerous eateries, whilst the North Norfolk coast with its beaches, harbour villages, and wildlife reserves can also be reached within a 4-mile drive.

Stepping inside this former schoolhouse for the first time, guests will immediately gain a sense of the property’s history. The main living area extends to 30’ and has a high beamed ceiling which has been beautifully maintained by the owners. Despite the grandeur of the room, the lounge area has a lovely cosy feel to it, with its deep sofa and open fire. In the corner of the room a TV/DVD provides entertainment in the evenings, whilst there is also a piano which will no doubt delight musical guests and the room also offers a dining table with views over the garden. The kitchen area is at the opposite end of the property and comes equipped with an oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, and washing machine. The bathroom (which is located downstairs), has been finished in a contemporary style and offers a shower-over-bath and WC. Wooden stairs lead to a partially galleried bedroom, a romantic space with a double bed situated under the eaves. (Please do be careful of the reduced head-height).

Outside, the property boasts an amazing 1 acre of grounds which has been mainly left to long grass in order to welcome a host of local wildlife. A path has been mowed to allow guests to wander around and to thoroughly enjoy the peaceful location. Garden furniture is provided, and it really is lovely to sit outside as the sun goes down and enjoy al fresco drinks in your private retreat. There is off-road parking available.

Should be made clear that the garden is not secure, so pets can get out into neighbouring fields. This means there is potential for them to get onto a road. The property did provide a screw, that you can put into the ground and attach your dogs lead to. Not sure how strong this would be for a medium/large dog?

I loved the cottage and location. Very easy to get to all the delights of the North Norfolk coast from Saxlingham. But.....It was lovely after a busy day to return to the unspoilt setting and quiet of the cottage. The dog loved it too.

Lovely cottage surrounded by nature but with easy access to coast and surrounding villages. Well equipped kitchen and very comfortable, open plan living area. Peaceful, natural garden and woodland full of wildlife.

The cottage was warm and comfortable in a lovely, secluded location, although the farm track approach might be more of a challenge in inclement weather. The appearance of hares and pheasants in the garden was a bonus we were not expecting, nor the deer on our early morning walk. A brilliant choice for an away from it all break, with some wonderful Read moreplaces to visit not too far away. Hide

Beautiful. Out in the middle of nowhere, so good for those who like solitude. Being North Norfolk the WiFi is extremely slow ( not a complaint) but dont expect to be streaming or downloading etc. Our dog loved the garden but be prepared to look for and remove ticks as there are a lot of deer in the area.

If you want peace and quiet, then this is the place for you. A great location to explore the North Norfolk coast and if you have your dog to consider then they will be quite happy. The schoolhouse is very comfortable with plenty of room to relax and unwind. Throughly enjoyed our stay there.
